Unearth A Story at Your Local Library!
Summer Vacation just kicked off and our Teen Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) has too!
Our theme this year is “Unearth A Story” – so expect to dig up plenty of ancient history, geology, paleontology, archaeology, fossils, and other buried treasures right here at CCJPL!
You may have participated in SRC when you were younger, but did you know that we also have an SRC Program just for teens? With hot Summer Reads to explore and a whole lineup of teens-only free workshops and activities, why not sign up for a chance to earn prizes, too?
It’s not too late to sign up, and it only takes a minute – here’s a little more information about Teen SRC 2026!
How to Sign Up for SRC
You can sign up at the Teen or Youth Services Desk at CCJPL! Your librarian will ask you a few questions to get you signed up, and then you can receive your SRC Challenge Card and Registration Prize at the Teen Desk.
How to Use your Challenge Card
Your Challenge Card is your personal point tracker for SRC. You can get points for logging time spent reading, Library Programs you attend, or by completing Bonus Quests! Bonus Quests include everything from art projects to making a family tree, writing your own stories, filming a movie parody, or planting seeds!
Each time you mark off a new goal on your point tracker, be sure to tally up your points! (You’ll need to report your points to the Teen Desk at CCJPL by July 22, 2026 or earlier.) However, don’t feel like you have to do EVERYTHING on your point tracker – remember, you can earn points three different ways! Start with the challenges that seem like the most fun to you, and curate your own SRC experience.
How to Earn Prizes
Ok, here’s the big question: how can I win as many prizes as possible this Summer?
- Every Teen who registers for SRC can pick up a Registration Prize.
- Every Teen who reports at least 100 points total to the Teen Desk by July 22nd can pick up a Completion Prize. (A tote bag with goodies and a free book!)
- The top ten point-earners (with points reported by July 22nd) will receive an invitation to the Teen End-of-Summer Lock-In Party.
- The top three places on the Leaderboard (with points reported by July 22nd) will each win a Grand Prize for first, second, and third place, respectively.
To be clear, Teens can report points to the Teen or Children’s Desk as frequently as needed – just make sure you report all points you’ve earned by or before July 22nd! Even once you pick up your Completion Prize at the 100 point marker, you can continue to report points up until that deadline to try to win a Grand Prize!
So, what are you waiting for? Visit your local public library to join in the fun!
