History
The Marked Tree Public Library was established February 15, 1938, as a W.P.A. project and is a branch of the Poinsett County Library.
The board of directors included:
- Mrs. Jake Schonberger
- Mrs. L.V. Ritter
- Miss Ruby Willoughby
- Mrs. Martin Worthy
- Mrs. Harold O'Rouke
- Mrs. A.J. Sharpe
- Guy Graves A.R. Keeling
- R.L. McGill
For the first 6 months of 1939, the library had a circulation of 11,750 books and 12,300 magazines. The library has proved to be of special benefit to the rural people of Marked Tree many of whom formerly lacked the opportunity to do very much reading.
The library has changed locations several times throughout the years. In the late 1990’s a new facility was built to house the library where it stands today.
