Do your kiddos love to DIY their own crafts? Get ready for Surf's Up - a bi-weekly event that will be hosted by the Children's Library this summer!

Each week there will be a different speaker or project based on the weekly summer themes from June 13th through July 29th.

Thursday, June 30th-Build your own Boat from Recycled Materials. The kids will use various recycled materials such as plastic bottles, bowls, and trays, along with duct tape, craft sticks, skewers, and plastic sheeting, to construct a sea vessel.  The kids will be allowed to design their own boat and test to see if it is seaworthy (if it will stay afloat).
Tuesday, July 12th-Ocean Yoga with Evelyn- Evelyn Watkins will lead another under the sea yoga session for the kiddos.
Thursday, July 15th-Recycled DVD Suncatchers-The kids will pick a sea turtle or fish constructed from damaged DVDs to decorate with rhinestones and jewels to give new life to something that could end up being trash out in our oceans.
Tuesday, July 19th-Ocean Day Lanterns-The kids will learn about Ocean Day, a Japanese holiday meant to show appreciation for all that the ocean provides.  They will then make a paper bag lantern like those that are displayed in parts of Japan in honor of Ocean Day.
Thursday, July 21st-Seashell Hoops-The kids will use fabric markers to trace a seashell pattern onto a piece of fabric in a hoop.  They may then use the markers and fun buttons to decorate their shell art that is ready to display in it's own hoop.
Tuesday, July 26th-Water Safety Class-Elizabeth from The Forrest L. Wood Nature Center will conduct a water safety class for kids in the Round Room.
Thursday, July 28th-Shrink Art Ocean Jewelry-We will provide shrink art paper for kids to draw on their favorite ocean creatures.  After punching a hole in them and baking them, the kids can choose to make their art into earrings, necklaces, keychains, or zipper pulls.
