This year marks the 40th anniversary of the death of the King of Rock and Roll. Each year, his death is honored with a week-long celebration known as Elvis Week. The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library participates in the celebration each year by hosting a week of Elvis related activities! The library will host the Good Friends Band on Monday, August 14th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. with a free Elvis concert! “We love it. We have a good time doing it. The people seem to really love it, too,” said Gene Barnett.
The Good Friends Band has played this concert at the library for the past several years bringing some of Elvis’ greatest hits to the Round Room concert. They always play the best of Elvis. “We’ve got more than we will need. We pick out the songs the band enjoys playing,” said Barnett. The band is made up of Donnie Stacy who plays drums, Bobby McPhearson on lead guitar and vocals, Jason Albertson on vocals and Gene Barnett on vocals and Bass. “If you haven’t heard the show, you might like to come and get involved. Dress up like Elvis and suggest your favorite Elvis songs,” said Barnett.
In addition to the concert, the library will also have a trivia contest throughout the week. You can take a selfie with Elvis in the library photo booth and put your name in for a drawing to win tickets to Graceland. For more information on this or other events taking place at the library, you can go to the library website at www.libraryinjonesboro.org, visit the library at 315 West Oak Avenue or call 870-935-5133.
