Events

This class starts at 6 p.m. every Monday and meets in the library in the non-fiction section. This is for experienced knitters and for beginners. If you're a beginner, don't worry about bringing anything, we'll supply you with needles and yarn.

On Monday, August 13th Teens (and adults) are welcome to join in on the discussion of the graphic novel "Barefood Gen" By Keiji Nakazawa.  The meeting startsat 6:30 p.m. in the Civic League Room.

We will play video games on Tuesday, August 14th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.in the round room.  This is a drop-in event for all ages.

Teens! Get your tattoo here (temporary, will wash off or fade away in a couple of weeks).  We will do back to school henna tattoos on Tuesday, August 14th at 4:00 p.m. in the Round Room.

 

Do you know what book you should read next?  Let us help you decide!  Join us for this free lunch and learn class  to learn more about "Novelist", which is a database found on the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library website.  This is a great tool to help you choose a new author, book series or genre based on what you already like. 

The Children's Library will show a movie on Wednesday, August 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Round Room.  The movie that will be shown is rated PG and stars Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski.  For more information, including the title of the movie, contact the Children's Library at 870-935-5133 extension 1120.

The Children's Library will host a day of crafts on August 16th.  Bring your children to the library for this drop-in event from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to make two of their favorite crafts.

On Thursday, August 16th tweens will get their own opportunity to get henna tattoos.  Tweens are considered any student who has completed 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  These type of temporary tattoos last anywhere from one to three weeks.

Join us on Tuesday, August 21st for our summer movie series! To go along with our book club "Books Became the Movies", we're showing the movies based off four different books.  For our final movie we will show the movie based on the Stieg Larsson novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" in the Round Room.  Join us at 6 p.m. for this film.  **This film is rated R

If you liked it last month or didn't get to participate... we're making fascinators again for Lunch and Learn in August!  Join us on Wednesday, August 22nd to make your own fascinator - also known as a tiny hat or heavily decorated headband! All you have to do is show up, we provide all of the supplies!  You are welcome to bring in your lunch for this event!

The Capitol, the districts, the Mockingjay pin... all of these things are known to fans of the popular series by Suzanne Collins.  "The Hunger Games" will be shown on Friday, August 24th in the Round Room starting at 6:00 p.m.

The Inquiring Minds Book Discussion group will meet on Monday, August 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic League Room.  Their books of choice for the month of August are "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain and "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway.

In August the Novel Lover's Book Discussion Group will read "The Lost Memoris of Jane Austen" by Syrie James.  This group will meet in the Round Room at 10:00 a.m.

Teens are invited to join the anime/manga club on Tuesday, August 28th in the Round Room at 4:00 p.m.

These days identity thieves seem to be around every corner.  There are many ways they can get your personal information - and you may not know until you're already in trouble.  Join us for this free Lunch and Learn class to learn more from Steven Svetz on this topic! Lunch and Learn is held every Wednesday at noon in the round room.

Introduction to computers is a class designed for those who have either never used a computer or have very little computer knowledge.  This class will be held on Tuesday, September 4th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Teens have already made altered t-shirts - now it's time to take their alterating skills to their feet!  We're doing altered flip flops on Tuesday, September 4th from 4-5 p.m. in the Round Room.

It's craft time in the Children's Library!  Kids can pick up a set of needles and a ball of yarn starting on September 5th and learn how to knit! Ms. Vivi Chase will start off teaching some of the basics of knitting to those who have never knitted and will work with the kids to complete projects.  The classes are held every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the Children's Library.

On Thursday, September 6th the library will host a resume workshop in the training lab. This workshop is an open-office style meeting space for anyone who has questions about finding jobs, filling out online applications and composing a resume.  Please bring printed or electronic copies of whatever you are working on.

This class is aimed at those who are new to computers.  This teaches new users the proper way to use a mouse.

This free latin inspired exercise class is held in the Round Room starting at 5:30 p.m. With the help of instructor Brooke Poff, you will learn dance/exercise routines to various songs that can help you shake and shimmy your way to a healthier you!

It's time once again for Fall Storytime!  Join us for family storytime every Monday night at 7:00 p.m.  This storytime is designed for families with children of different ages and for parents who work during the day.

 This class teaches users the basics of email.  During the class each participant will be set up with a free "gmail" account. 

It's time for Fall Storytime!  PeeWee Storytime is designed for 2-year-old and 3-year-olds and their parents or caregivers.

Welcome to Fall Storytime! Pre-K Storytime is for children who are 4 and 5-years-old. Kids get to hear a story and then do a craft at the end. Parents and caregivers are not required to stay, but are always welcome.

It's time for our 2nd Annual Fall Concert Series! We'll kick off the concert series on September 11th with the David Daniels Blues Band out of Memphis.  The free concert will start at 6:00 p.m. on the lawn of the library located at 315 West Oak Avenue.
